Literary structure (chiasmus, chiasm) of Book of Genesis

Chiasmus and Concentric Structure of divided by 3

When the whole text is divided in three equivalent pericopes, three concentric structures appear. The three centers are "The Call of Abram" (no. 14, Gen. 12:1-9), "Trouble with Wells, Covenant with God" (no. 41, Gen. 26:15-25), and "Joseph Interprets Dreams" (no. 68, Gen. 40:1-41:45). Those three pericopes have stories about beginning the roles of patriarchs and Joseph (searching for the Promised Land, settling down at the Promised Land by digging the wells , and governing Egypt). Unlike divided in four structure, these structures focus on three era of Abraham, Issac, and Joseph.
The divisional points are composed of the contracts towards different ethnic groups ("Abraham and Sarah at Gerar" 20:1-18, and "Laban and Jacob Make a Covenant" 31:43-54). That structure may emphasize the process that the Lord had given the roles for the Israelites towards the different ethnic group. In other words, the structure of divided by 3 may be intended to clear the history of salvation that the persecuted Nomadic people had discovered the hometown, and had settled down overcoming the conflicts against other ethnic groups, and finally had governed various ethnic groups.
