Literary structure (chiasmus, chiasm) of Gospel of Mark

Chiasmus and Concentric Structure of divided by 5

The text is divided into five concentric structure at four divisional pericopes "The true kindred of Jesus" (no. 17, Mark 3:31-35), "The yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod" (no. 33, Mark 8:11-21), "Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem" (no. 49, Mark 11:1-11), and "The plot to kill Jesus" (no. 65, Mark 14:1-2). The first concentric structure (nos. 1 to 17) is the preparation for ministry and vocation of the disciples, the second concentric structure (nos.17 to 33) is spreading the kingdom of God and peoples' question about identity of Jesus, the third concentric structure (nos. 33 to 49) is foretelling about the Passion and the resurrection, the fourth concentric structure (nos. 49 to 65) is the teachings at Jerusalem, and the fifth concentric structure (nos. 65 to 81) is the Passion and the resurrection. These structures correspond to semantic division through narrative unlike four divided structures.
